Sheila was a very dear friend. When I lived in Stratford in the 70's, we often went to the theatre together, along with Di Brownhill and Anne Skelley, and usually sat in Row R, I think it was, so that we were near the stage and had a good view of the tops of the actors' heads - and were near the bar! That was Sheila's sense of fun, and practicality. Her wide interests, her strength of character, her sense of design shown in her beautifully arranged house, her liveliness, her individuality: what a lovely person! We last saw her in August last year when she was far from well, but nonetheless kept up a most enjoyable, spirited conversation. I am so glad to have known her and counted her a friend.

I am I and you are you, whatever we were to each other that we still are.
Speak to me in the easy way which you always used.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
Life means all that it ever meant, it is the same as it ever was.
